John Evangelista
Vice President, USA

John is a Vice President with SLM Partners in New York, where he plays a key role in the implementation of our US organic farmland strategy. He is responsible for identifying farmers, originating land deals and deploying capital from our separate accounts to scale up organic grain production in the US Midwest and Northeast.

Over the course of his career, John has sought to develop and implement strategies to scale sustainable finance initiatives. He worked for 6 years at CNS Global Advisors where he advised a network of private equity funds and corporate investors on structuring over US$2.5 billion of transactions within developing economies. This included solar and wind development, municipal LED retrofitting projects, a large-scale afforestation project, and an impact investment fund for Latin America. Before that he worked for Francisco Sanchez, President Obama’s head of U.S. International Trade, in Washington, DC, and for WHEB Partners and DN Capital in London. He also led volunteer recovery work around his home in New York City after Hurricane Sandy.

John gained a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Biology at Cornell University where he was on the Dean’s List. During his education at Cornell University, John regularly volunteered at the student farm, Dilmun Hill, from where he developed a network of personal relationships with agronomists and New York regional farmers. He volunteers at the Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture, a non-profit farm and educational center, where his fiancé serves as Farm Coordinator.
